Yesterday, when Tropical Storm Alberto was a Tropical Depression, stories were all over the news about how dreadful hurricanes are. How people in Key West were throwing their hands up and leaving. About how everyone who isn't scared and fearful of the impending doom the hurricane was bringing is probably a stupid redneck.
Even with Alberto now being a potential hurricane, nothing is going to happen. Oh sure, the media will show its obligatory photos of the guy with no teeth stepping outside to smoke in his carport when it collapsed, but there is going to be negligible property damage, and almost no loss of life.
Now, when the big one actually comes, everyone will have an extra reason to stay at home and die.
Okay, this rant sounded better in my head than it came out on paper.

Dang, Nick, this Alberto was only gonna be a level 1. Even I would have no problem staying around for something like that. I was over on the Gulf this weekend, and it wasn't that bad. Some meteorologist was saying that some place (Cedar Key, Steinhatchee?) should expect an 8-FOOT storm surge. ?!?!?!?! Uhm, no.
