Wedded Bliss

So my baby sister's wedding has come and gone; mom and dad have us all married off. I'll be honest, this was probably the most stressful wedding out of the four weddings. But then again, Stephanie was the only Schutz bride in the bunch.

Weddings are a great opportunity to see both the best and the worst sides of your family. It's nice to know that as time passes, the good memories become fond ones, the bad memories fade away, and the horrible memories become hilarious stories that get shared and passed on to our children. And per Schutz tradition, we won't have to worry about pictures. I'm still waiting on some from Stephanie and her maid of honor, and the Grunklee side is going to send me what they have, but we even without those we have collected 1,757 pictures so far. Yup, we've upgraded from handing out a CD with all the pictures to handing out a DVD all the pictures.

It was great to see my Nebraska relatives, most of whom I haven't seen in 15 years. Alesha also got to meet my Texas relatives who weren't able to make it out for our wedding. (David, she thinks you're a great guy.)

A note for all of you people planning weddings out there! Far be it from me to think that I have any sort of opinions on how weddings should be run, but there were a couple of things that they did that I thought worked out really well. There were about 160 people invited, but the reception hall was big enough for 400 people. At all of the other weddings, I think the halls were at capacity. At this wedding, no one felt crowded, and the air conditioner was able to keep up. During the father-daughter and mother-son dances, the couple and their respective parents danced at the beginning of the dance, but later all of the fathers and daughters (or mothers and sons during the second dance) were invited on the dance floor. Not only was it a nice gesture for everyone involved in the wedding, it didn't seem like there was a long awkward period with everyone watching a couple of people dance.

Life back at home has proved to be a bit more mundane. We still kind of feel like we're on vacation. Nathan and April visited on Sunday, and my parents have stayed with us the past two nights. But we've still had to go to work. Blah. And to continue a theme we've had so far this summer, the air conditioning in our house appears to be broken.

Don't worry, there will be no "here's how we screwed up the air conditioning" post. The handyman will be here at 7:30 on Monday morning. Who cares if it's supposed to be 95º all weekend?
